Inspired by this year's annual Banned Books Week theme “Censorship Is So 1984. Read for Your Rights.”, the Henry Whittemore Library encouraged the Framingham State University to get involved and protect guaranteed access to books for ALL residents across the Commonwealth. Along with the Education Department, the library sponsored "Free Expression and Book Bans in MA: What Can We Do?"
State Reps. David Linsky, Jack Patrick Lewis, and Adam Scanlon (FSU '19) explained the importance of two bills currently being proposed to protect book access for all, while encouraging students, staff, and faculty to advocate and get involved at the local level. The panelists included Professors Lisa Eck, Chu Ly, and Thomas Severo, alongside FSU President Nany Niemi and students Norah Russell and Charlie Karp, who discussed the challenges and opportunities facing veteran and emerging educators in Massachusetts and beyond.
