Library Internship Experience

My name is Michael and I am one of the interns at the library this year. I’m a Senior English major with a minor in Digital Humanities, and I live right here in Framingham.

My experience during this Fall semester was great! My work for the library was mainly focused on writing blog posts about campus events and interviews with student workers and other library employees, as well as making videos for the library’s YouTube channel about accessing various features.

One of the best parts of the internship was attending the events that I wrote about. Some of these were related to the traveling Holocaust exhibition the library hosted at the start of the semester, and they were informative and interesting. I learned a lot through this internship, both about what it is like to work in this kind of setting and about American history from the events.

The library internship is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain more experience in a library setting, as well as with social media management, and to use their creative skills effectively. I encourage any English or Communications majors to consider either doing an internship or finding a job at the library.

In addition to being an opportunity to gain experience, working at the library has also helped develop skills such as time management. This is especially important for many college students who, if you are like me, tend to procrastinate with assignments. I actually found myself putting things off much less this semester, and I think it was because I was working on my own schedule for the library, which forced me to manage my time more actively.

Library work is very important because it plays a pivotal role in education, both with children in school and adults in life. Libraries offer a wide variety of services that many people do not realize; books are not the only thing you can get from a library! They are an important part of any community and working in one is a privilege.

Everyone at the library is kind and supportive, and I was able to use some creativity in my work. I am excited to continue the internship in the Spring!
