History: Primary Resources

A guide dedicated to primary resources related to United States and international history.

Why visit an archive, museum, or another library?

Massachusetts and New England are rich in both history and educational institutions. There are many libraries, museums and archives within the area that provide primary source materials on all sorts of subjects. Not all of these institutions have their collections digitized online. You may need to pay a visit to an institution in order to view the primary source materials on site - but the trip may well be worth it! Just a few of these institutions are included on this page. There are many more located throughout the state and the rest of New England. Aside from libraries, archives and musuems, you may also arrange to visit historical societies in the city or town related to your topic.
