Visit the Exhibit

Americans and the Holocaust will be on display on the gallery floor of the Henry Whittemore Library from September 3rd, 2024 - October 11th, 2024. The library welcomes self-guided group tours of up to 20 people at a time. Completing the main exhibit takes approximately 45 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes recommended for complementary displays and reflection.

Gallery exhibits include:

  • United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Traveling Exhibition - What did the US government and the American people know about the threats posed by Nazi Germany? What responses were possible? And when? This exhibition examines the motives, pressures, and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war, and genocide.

  • U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Smithsonian Institution Service Poster Exhibitions: State of Deception, American Witness, and Righting A Wrong: Japanese Americans and World War II - The posters showcase the courage and determination of U.S. troops held as prisoners of war and those liberating the concentration camps following the end of World War II, provide a further analysis of propaganda materials used by governments and media throughout the war, and examine the history of Japanese American incarceration during World War II, analyzing the choices made by those within and outside of the incarceration camps.

  • Artwork from Professor Leslie Starobin - Explore several pieces specially selected by Professor Starobin to highlight her own connection to the events discussed throughout the main exhibition.

  • Artifacts from Framingham State University Archives - On the FSU campus during the 1930s and 1940s.

  • Reflection Stations - Take a moment to reflect during and after the exhibition and share your thoughts and experience.
