Among other celebrations we’ve covered these past few weeks, March is also National Nutrition Month®! It’s hard to stay healthy when grappling with things like work and school, but a busy life is even more of a reason to make sure you're fueling yourself and treating your body right!
National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics which aims to encourage individuals to make informed choices about food and develop healthy habits. It originally started as National Nutrition Week in 1973, and later became a month-long observance in 1980 due to the increasing interest in nutrition. This year’s theme, “Food Connects Us”, focuses on the many ways that food connects us to our cultures, families, and friends. Something as simple as sharing a meal can be an opportunity to learn more about one another as food attaches us to memories, traditions, and so much more.
If you want to learn some new recipes to celebrate, check out some of the cookbooks available at the library that highlight diverse cuisines, family recipes, and the joy of coming together to enjoy a home-cooked meal. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics also has a list of 50 ideas to get involved in spreading the message of healthful living.
