Anti-Racism Workshop

Session V: Wednesday, April 9

Unlearning Racist Behavior and Allyship – During this workshop participants will explore what they know and believe about race through assessments and exercises. Furthermore, the workshop will explore what an antiracist education looks like and the what the role of individuals, colleges and universities looks like in this context and examine the concept of "allyship" and what it means to be an antiracist ally. Participants are asked to complete the Implicit Association Test and continue reading the book How to Be An Antiracist, in preparation for the workshop session.

Materials

Please familiarize yourself with the materials bellow in the following order, it will take roughly 40 minutes to complete all videos and reading materials.

  1. Terminology
    1. Racist – One who is supporting racist policy through their actions or inaction or expressing a racist idea.
    2. Antiracist – One who is supporting an antiracist policy through their actions or expressing an antiracist idea.
    3. Class Racist – One who is racializing the classes, supporting policies of racial capitalism against those race-classes, and justifying them by racist ideas about those race-classes.
    4. Racial Capitalism – Economic exploitation based on race.
    5. Antiracist Anticapitalist – One who is opposing racial capitalism.
    6. Space Racism – A powerful collection of racist policies that lead to resource inequity between racialized spaces or the elimination of certain racialized spaces, which are substantiated by racist ideas about racialized spaces.
    7. Space Antiracism – A powerful collection of antiracist policies that lead to racial equity between integrated and protected racialized spaces, which are substantiated by antiracist ideas about racialized spaces.
    8. Gender Racism – A powerful collection of racist policies that lead to inequity between race-genders and are substantiated by racist ideas about race-genders.
    9. Gender Antiracism – A powerful collection of antiracist policies that lead to equity between race-genders and are substantiated by antiracist ideas about race genders.
    10. Queer Racism – A powerful collection of racist policies that lead to inequity between race-sexualities and are substantiated by racist ideas about race-sexualities.
    11. Queer Antiracism – A powerful collection of antiracist policies that lead to equity between race-sexualities and are substantiated by antiracist ideas about race-sexualities.
    12. Ally – An individual who works with those from the oppressed group in collaboration and partnership, seeks to not only end the system of oppression, but to liberate.
    13. Activist – An individual who produces and keeps record of power and policy changes to inequities.
