Full Access & Borrowing Privileges

All FSU community members can borrow electronic and physical collection resources from the Whittemore Library with:

  • A valid FSU I.D. with the library account bar code and number on the back
  • OR a valid library account number (for online learners or distance instructors)
  • OR a valid Minuteman Library Network card
  • AND a working FSU login and password
    • For help with your FSU login, contact IT.

All FSU patrons with a valid FSU ID card and/or their library account number have access to the shared resources of the 40+ libraries in our Library network (Minuteman).

Course Reserves

Course Reserves are available to studentsCourse Reserves are books, DVDs, articles, or other materials a professor selects to make available in the library or in the course site on Canvas for their students to use. 

  • Physical reserve materials, like books or DVDs, can looked up online using the Minuteman Catalog search.
    • These items are kept at the Access Services Desk and may be borrowed if you have a valid library card.
    • These are typically 2-hour loans that are to be used in the library only.
  • e-Reserves, such as articles and book chapters, that are uploaded to Canvas and can be accessed from anywhere.

If your course materials are on reserve, it should be listed in your course syllabus or Canvas class or stated by your professor.

For MBCC Students Housed at FSU

MBCC students may use and borrow from the Whittemore Library's main print collection while living in FSU residence halls.

To obtain a library card, please visit the Access Services Desk or email them.

Alumni Borrowing Privileges

One you have been registered for Alum borrowing privileges at the Access Services Desk, you may:

  • Check out items (no borrowing limit) from our Main Collection using your Minuteman/Alum Library card

Once you have been approved by Curriculum Library staff, you may:

  • Check out UM-16 Curriculum Collection or Swider Collection items (a maximum of TWO items total checked out at any one time)
  • May borrow books from the Juvenile/YA Collection (no limit, but must walk in)

For Minuteman Library Network Patrons

As a Minuteman Library Network Patron, you may:

  • Use the visitor desktop computer (no FSU login required) to search the Minuteman Library Catalog
  • Check out items (no limit) from our Main Collection using your Minuteman Library card
  • May borrow books from the Juvenile/YA Collection (no limit, but must walk in)

For MA Public Higher Ed. Students

As a student with a valid school ID, who is currently attending any Massachusetts State college or university, you may:

  • Use the visitor desktop computer (no FSU login required) to search the Minuteman Library Catalog
  • Check out items (no limit) from our Main Collection using your Minuteman Library card, via the MA Walk-In ILL Program

IF you are approved by Curriculum Library Staff during you visit, you may:

  • Borrow ONE Curriculum Collection item from UM-16 or the Swider Collection
  • May borrow books from the School Library Collection (no limit) via the MA Walk-In ILL Program

Visitors at FSU

Anyone may visit the Whittemore Library; it is open to the public.

  • Visitors are welcome to use our main collection print resources while here.
  • However, please be aware that the FSU community (students, faculty and staff) will receive preferential access to the use of our resources and spaces.
