Borrowing & Returning Library Materials

  • Your FSU ID card is also your Library Card.
    • If there is not a long bar code on the back, please contact Access Services staff, so that they may correct that situation.
    • That Library account number is required to:
      • Check-out certain Minuteman items (such as Libby/Overdrive & Kindle eBooks.)
      • Access an online Minuteman account page, where you can see your account status and renew books online
      • Put 'holds' on physical items owned by other Minuteman libraries so that they will be checked out to you, then quickly sent to the Whittmore Library for you to pick up and use.
  • Whittemore Library books can be checked out at the Circulation Desk.
  • Return books and other items at the Circulation Desk, or via the exterior book drop slot in the building to the left side of the library entry doors.
  • Items that you put on 'hold' while on the Minuteman Catalog Site and requested delivered to the Whittemore Library can be picked up at the Circulation Desk upon e-mail notification of their arrival. You can return these to the Circulation Desk / Bookdrops, OR directly to any other Minuteman Library (if you live close to another one).
  • Print books that you have requested via our Tipasa ILL system can be picked up at the Circulation Desk upon e-mail notification of their arrival. When done, return these to the Circulation Desk.

Interlibrary Loan Delivery Service

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the general system of cooperative exchange of items among institutions for their patrons. ILL requests for journal articles or books can be created, submitted, and managed through our Tipasa ILL My Account page.

Journal Article Requests

You will be notified when your requested materials (PDFs) are available. They will be accessible via a link in a notification e-mail, or via a link on the ILL My Account page. Articles become available fairly quickly, usually within a few days to a week.

Print Book Requests

Print books that you have requested via our ILL system can be picked up at the Circulation Desk upon e-mail notification of their arrival. Since these are mailed via USPS, they can take longer (several days to a week or more, depending on the location of the library which has loaned them) to arrive at the Whittemore Library. When done using these, return them to the staff at the Circulation Desk.

Note to Distance-Only Faculty: Since we are not able to provide Distance-Only FSU faculty with ILL loans of physical books, please check our Ebsco e-Books Collection and other eBook databases for suitable monographs, and if we do not have a specific book you are seeking there, please contact your local public library to inquire about your region's local ILL services.

You may, of course, use your Tipasa ILL My Account page to request and receive digital PDF copies of articles.
