Library Building Orientation Tours & Library Instruction Sessions

Building Tours

Our Outreach & Student Engagement Coordinator is available for 15 to 20 minute long tours of the physical library - it's a great way to get your students into the library and more familiar with so much of what we have to offer, including the Circulation Desk, our reservable study rooms, the Rams Renew Room, and our Research Help Desk.

Library Instruction

The Research & Learning Department Librarians are available for instruction sessions, held in our instruction room UM-14 (preferred), or in your classroom.

  • Instruction sessions (on average, about an hour) are available for both day and evening (DGCE) classes
  • For those of you teaching online-only or hybrid courses, instruction lessons can be held via Zoom
  • The best time during the semester to schedule a session is at the beginning of a research-intensive assignment; we'll consult with you beforehand to ensure that we're reinforcing the library research and digital literacy skills you've identified as most important for your students
  • As we cannot guarantee accommodation of truly last-minute requests, please submit Instruction Requests with at least a week (or more) lead time.
  • For more details, please e-mail or call our Instruction Coordinator Sandra Rothenberg.

LMS-Embedded Librarians

An 'Embedded Librarian' is a subject librarian who is given access to your Canvas class site by IT's Education Technology Department, so that they may monitor an "Ask a Librarian" discussion board, and in that way offer their experience and assistance to your students all semester long.

TIP: Adding a posting requirement or offering extra credit for doing so can get students who normally might not communicate with the library - ever - to do so. They're generally pleasantly surprised when they see how we can help them get started with - or get 'unstuck' - during substantial research assignments.
