How to add something to the Library's Course Reserves Collection
Print Reserves (Physical Books):
- This will be a request for a print book we already have in our collection (we'll retrieve it from the stacks), OR your personal copy* of something
- Submit a Print Reserve Request to our Course Reserves Coordinator
- Please drop off books for reserve at the Circulation Desk
- Sorry; we can't accept reserve requests or book drop-offs from student proxies/assistants
- We also can't put books borrowed from other libraries (including via ILL) on reserve
- We will notify you when a reserve item is available; but you then need to announce that availability to your students
- You have 2 choices for the reserves borrowing period:
- Two-Hour, does not leave the library (most common)
- Overnight, can leave the library, due the next day
eReserves (Digital PDFs):
- This will be be:
- A complete citation for an article or a book chapter (so that we CAN obtain it via ILL, before putting it on eReserve)
- A digital PDF copy you already had, OR
- A photocopy of an article or book chapter that we will scan, digitize and add to eReserves
- Submit an eReserves Request to our Course Reserves Coordinator
- If you submit something that needs to be scanned / digitized, it needs to be a clean, legible copy, sent to us via interdepartmental mail or dropped off at the Circulation Desk
- We will notify you when an eReserve item is uploaded and ready to use, but you need to add a link to your Canvas course site that will lead to it - please contact ETO for any needed assistance
The Fine Print (aka: Policies)
- All reserve items will be removed at the end of each semester; none will be held from semester to semester

- *Whittemore Library staff will not be responsible for replacing damaged, lost, or stolen faculty personal copies
- All items placed on reserve must conform to US Copyright Law (Title 17)
- Library staff will obtain any necessary copyright permissions and pay any related license fees
- Should permission be unobtainable, or the license fee prohibitive, library staff will halt processing and inform the faculty member
- In the past, some faculty have had photocopies of articles, or book chapters placed on print reserve at the Circulation Desk. Please request no more than 2 physical copies of an article or book chapter to be put on print reserve, as additional copies will be no longer be considered 'Fair Use' and will require copyright permission. Keep in mind that putting one digital copy on eReserves instead gets around this issue, since all students can access that single copy.
